A Brief Description of the Aims and Objectives
The advent of fluorescent labeling technologies plus the plethora of sophisticated light microscope techniques now available make studying dynamic processes in living cells almost commonplace. Especially, STED, STOM, SPR, SERS are applied insingle cell imaginganalysis, single molecule analysisand 3D cell cultures.
Point of care (POC) testing, which is defined as near patient testing in a hospital, doctor’s office, clinic, or home, offers advantages when a rapid answer is required, or when suitable facilities or logistics chains are unavailable. Wearable chemosensorsand paper-based microfluidic analysis divicesare current research hot topic.
In addition, biomarkers are on the verge of becoming powerful diagnostic tools for various human diseases. Detection of CTCs, as a liquid biopsyof tumors, can be used for early diagnosis of cancers, earlier evaluation of cancer recurrence and chemotherapeutic efficacy, and choice of individual sensitive anti-cancer drugs. The most diseases originate from the deficiency or malfunctioning of endogenous genes inside the body.Gene therapy and genetic mtutation analysis, whose primary goal is to treat diseases at the fundamental (genetic) level, is expected to impact a broad range of healthcare issues ranging from genetically inherited or acquired diseases, to cancer. With concurrent advancements in imaging modalities involving nanoparticles, concepts such as multimodality, combination therapies, theranostics and image guided therapies emerged. Nanotherapiesalso show promise in complementing traditional therapeutic avenues, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
